Five rules that stop almost every scam

If a conversation breaks one of these, stop and report it. You do not owe a stranger an explanation.

  • Keep it inside KodyMatch

Chat and video call here. A match who rushes you onto WhatsApp or Telegram is moving you somewhere we cannot see — and cannot act on.

  • Video call before you meet

One in-app video call shows you the person behind the photos. An excuse for why it can never happen is a red flag, not bad luck.

  • Never send money, for any reason

No mobile money, no airtime, no data, no visa or customs fees, no hospital bills, no business deposit. Someone who genuinely cares about you will not need your money before they have met you.

  • Meet in public, travel on your own terms

Daytime, a busy place, and your own transport both ways. Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back.

  • Never share PINs, codes or card details

Nobody from KodyMatch will ever ask for your password, your mobile money PIN, a one-time code or your card CVV — not in chat, not on a call, not by email.

Know the pattern

How a romance scam runs here

Almost every case our moderators handle follows the same five moves. Learn the shape and you will spot it early.

  1. 1

    A perfect profile

Stolen or AI-generated photos, an impressive job or background, and intense interest in you within minutes.

  2. 2

    Fast feelings

“I love you” inside a few days, and an immediate push to move to WhatsApp or Telegram.

  3. 3

    Every check is impossible

Video calls are always cancelled — bad network, a hospital visit, a broken camera, a strict workplace.

  4. 4

    Then an emergency

Customs fees, a hospital bill, visa money, airtime, fuel, or a deal that needs a small deposit today.

  5. 5

    Payment, then pressure

The first payment is never the last. The story escalates, or the person disappears and returns as someone new.

Red flags that need action today

  • They ask for money, airtime or data before you have met.
  • They refuse, or endlessly postpone, an in-app video call.
  • They want to move the conversation off KodyMatch straight away.
  • Their story changes, or the details never add up twice.
  • They ask you to keep the relationship secret from family and friends.
  • They sell you coins, Premium or “verification” outside the app.

Spot the scam: three lines from real reports

Read each one, decide for yourself, then open the answer.

“My network cannot handle video. You are the first person who has ever understood me — send me money for data and I will call you tonight.” Show the answer Hide the answer

Scam — an excuse plus a money request

Why: A data bundle costs less than the call it enables. Anyone who needs your money before showing their face on video is on step four of the playbook above.

After two messages they send a WhatsApp link and say their KodyMatch account is “for work”, so you should talk to them there instead. Show the answer Hide the answer

Scam — moving you off the platform

Why: Off-platform means no evidence, no reporting trail and no help from our moderation team. Stay in the app until you have met someone safely.

A WhatsApp message says you have won a KodyMatch Premium giveaway, and you must pay a small activation fee to claim it. Show the answer Hide the answer

Scam — impersonation

Why: KodyMatch never charges a fee to release a prize and never asks for money over WhatsApp. Real offers appear in the shop, on your own account.

Plan the date

A safe first date, step by step

This is the plan we recommend for every first meeting.

  1. 1

    Video call first

Confirm you are meeting the person in the photos.

  2. 2

    Share Date

Tell a friend you trust where, when and who you are meeting.

  3. 3

    Public place, your own transport

Busy and daytime, and you control how you arrive and leave.

  4. 4

    Check in afterwards

Message your friend when you are safely on your way home.

Money

How money really moves on KodyMatch

The only money that can change hands here is what you choose to spend on Premium and on coins. No member can legitimately ask you for cash through the app.

  • Premium and coins come from the shop

You buy them in the in-app shop through our payment provider, by card or mobile money. There is no other legitimate way to pay KodyMatch.

  • Gifts cost coins, never cash

A gift is coins spent inside the app. Nobody can send you a gift and then claim you owe them its value.

  • A request for money is a scam, without exception

Airtime, mobile money, fuel, data, hospital bills, customs — every version is the same offence, and every one of them is reportable here.

  • Anyone selling coins or Premium outside the app is impersonating us

Cheaper coins, guaranteed verification, a “Premium agent” in your inbox — all of it is a scam. Report it.

If money has already left your account

  1. Report the member in KodyMatch with screenshots, so our moderators can act on the account.

  2. Contact your mobile money provider or bank immediately and ask them to freeze or reverse the transfer.

  3. Report it to your country's cybercrime authority or police service, and keep the reference they give you.

  4. Keep every screenshot, the transaction reference and the phone numbers. Do not delete the conversation.

Honest signals

What our trust labels mean — and what they do not

These labels say what KodyMatch has checked. None of them is a background check or a guarantee of character.

  • Email verified

    Email verified

The member confirmed an inbox we can reach them on. It tells you we can contact them; it says nothing about who they are.

  • Photo approved

    Photo approved

A moderator reviewed the member’s main photo. It is not government ID, and it is not a face match.

  • Met on video

    Met on video

You have been on an in-app video call with this member. It means you were both genuinely on that call, not that their name is real.

Where our labels stop

We do not claim to verify identity, income or background, and we put no “100% safe” or percentage badge on anybody.

What we do behind the scenes

  • Photos are reviewed before they appear, and every report is investigated by our moderation team.
  • Blocking is immediate: the member disappears from your feed, your matches and your chats.
  • You decide who can find you with your age, distance and country preferences in profile settings.
  • We never ask for your password, mobile money PIN, one-time codes or card details.

Where to get real help

KodyMatch is not affiliated with any of these services and cannot recover money for you — but they can act where we cannot.

  • Your country's reporting service

Report the fraud to your country's national cybercrime authority or your police service's fraud unit. A report there is what starts a real investigation.

  • Your bank or mobile money provider

Report a suspicious transfer as early as you can. The sooner it is flagged, the better the chance of a reversal.

Emergency: If you are in danger right now, call your local emergency number. 112 reaches emergency services on most mobile networks worldwide. KodyMatch is not an emergency service and cannot send help to you.
